JULY 23, 2011 Meeting ~ Sylvia Bern Reporting
We were happy to have as our guest, Amelia Mcgrew from the County Extension Service. She presented a video about food preparation and talked about having a nutritious diet but also one that is suited to individual needs. She distributed various handouts, including a booklet of Blueberry recipes and Diabetes Nutrition Tips. She answered questions during the Q and A which encouraged discussion and exchange of other good info .
To help us celebrate our 16th anniversary Amelia prepared a fresh fruit salad which went well with our cookies and ice cream. We truly enjoyed her visit! Sorry some of you missed it.

AUGUST 27, 2011 Meeting ~ Sylvia Bern Reporting
Today we visited and caught up on individual health status. John Driscoll has had a couple of bad falls but is now ok. George Norsworthy has had breathing problems and is seeing a doctor. We are well aware of the aging process but must not let it or the changes it brings get us down. We have a brain! Keep it stimulated!
We are blessed with family and friends. Several members recounted humorous incidents and "inside jokes" that pertain to the effects of polio. Being able to laugh at ourselves and situations goes a long way toward keeping us "balanced". Tip- keep that cell phone handy.

SEPTEMBER 24. 2011 Meeting ~ Patsy Adams Reporting
Pretty weather and football games kept our attendance low, but we had a good meeting.
The new Yellow Dot program was discussed. Hope no one will have to use it but the program sounds as if it could help EMT or police to assist needs quickly.
Helpful accessories was our topic: Shared items or ideas that help make our lives or life style easier. To name a few: roll carts – reacher (short and long), short stools, grab bars at doorways and tubs, bathtub lifters, chair risers, wide adapter to key, making it easier to turn and motion lights. SAFETY is always one of our concerns.
George Norsworthy told about being stung by bees and holding a copper penny over the sting made the sting and hurt go away.
We only have one more meeting this year, do try to be at our Oct. 22nd meeting.

Notes from the PPPSG Meetings
JULY 16, 2011 Meeting ~ Leigh Dethlefs Reporting
The July post-polio meeting for Pensacola and had 13 attending. It was a really hot day so for once we appreciated the cold temps at our meeting. That has gotten better since we moved our meetings down the hall. It is not quite so cold. George and I had missed the June meeting and everyone was telling us how good the talk and demos were from Center of Independent Living. It seems that there are many things the center has to loan that could be helpful to us. I hope they can come again some time.
We caught up on where everyone spent their summer vacations. It is a great help when people tell how they managed the difficulties of going away from home on trips. A lot of times you don't realize the challenges of everyday living without all of the conveniences of being at home. Let us know how your trips have gone. Hope to see everyone next month.

AUGUST 20, 2011 Meeting ~ Leigh Dethlefs Reporting
A group of 12 gathered for our August meeting. It was good to see everyone. Our topics were cholesterol medications and their side affects. My question is the side affect of muscle pain, how do we know the difference between post-polio affects and side affects? Even though we know more information about medications, how does it apply to us ? Some of us have experienced this side affect and told our doctors about it. There is a big difference between statin and non statin medication, with one having generic and the other not. Start asking and see what you come up with. Let us know.
Clara Norsworthy visited with Jane Clark who is recovering from a broken hip and a twisted knee. Jane has had her share of broken bones. She is in a rehabilitation facility and we pray for her.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2011 Meeting ~ Leigh Dethlefs Reporting
We had eleven people at our Sept. meeting. We talked about when our Christmas meeting would be. We decided the first week in December which would be December 3rd. We will be doing the same thing as the last couple of years. Naughty Santa with finger foods from everyone. If things change we will let everyone know before the party. Not sure where it will be. Either at Jim and Shirley Neils or at the Baptist Towers. No speakers at the meeting so Clara updated us on how everyone is and what members needed help.
Hope to see everyone at October meeting so we can work out plans for our December meeting.
